I have been so happy lately. So happy. I can’t explain it. It feels so good to be embracing life like this and I just wish that everyone could feel this way. I have changed a lot of things in my life in the past few months and I think that all the little things really do add up to making everyday that much better! I know a lot of these ‘tips’ might seem obvious because we’ve all heard a lot of them before but I think we forget about them or we just think they aren’t important. These are things that work in my life, maybe you aren’t able to do some or they aren’t effective, but basically the point is that you need to take time in your life for you. Happiness isn’t an emotion, it’s a state of being.

  1. Wake up earlier.

You will truly feel so much more productive and it gives you more time to be alive and do all these great things you want to do!! I like stretching or maybe doing like 5 minutes of yoga as soon as I wake up, it makes you want to continue to do healthy things.

  2. Be intentional.

Everything you do in your life, in your day, should have a purpose. Set an intention for each day when you wake up. Make it an aspect of growth for something in your life.

  3. Take time to make food. And be healthy about it.

Making food is honestly therapeutic for me now. I go all out. I cut the onions and garlic nicely, use fresh veggies.. The microwave is evil to me now. And frozen food (except frozen fruit). Pinterest is your best friend for recipes and food inspo. Get creative! Also, I highly recommend going vegetarian or vegan. I’m super passionate about it but that’s a whole ‘nother blog post!IMG_2709

  4. Don’t veg out so much!!!

I know you’re tired sometimes and you just want to watch netflix but trust me that doesn’t really help you with anything. It ultimately always makes me feel unproductive and gross. Do something to honor your calling today! IMG_3073

  5. Journal.

Ok seriously I never knew what I was missing out on until I started journaling in India. It’s great for a couple reasons. One, you can vent and no one ever has to listen to you. Writing down your problems like that usually does one of these things: you either realize you’re overreacting or being petty, or you figure out what you need to do to fix the issue. Two, you can write down all the things that you dream of and the things you want your life to be like. I love putting all the quotes and people that inspire me in there so I don’t forget. I glue in pictures, tickets, wristbands from festivals, notes from friends, drawings, everything. Write it down, plan it out, manifest that shit. Three, it is such a good way to document all of the things that happen in your life. My favorite thing ever is being able to open up my journal and read about all the adventures I had, all of the funny stories and memories and life lessons. That journal is ME. It’s my life in a nutshell and I think that is so beautiful.

  6. DO ART.

Express yourself. Even if you don’t think you’re good at it, it is so therapeutic. Draw in your journal, paint something, decorate your room, make some jewelry or modify some of your clothes, WHATEVER just get creative!! I’ve been artsy my whole life but just recently I started my dream job (EEP!) as a henna artist and I get to do art pretty much all day long. “The Earth without art would just be eh”IMG_0062

  7. Read. Read about something you’re interested in!

The environment, food, travel, cars, whatever. A lot of people say they don’t like reading but trust me, you probably just haven’t found the right book. Be inspired. If you want check out my Cool Stuff category for lots of book recommendations coming soon!!IMG_0069

  8. Go outside.

This one is so big. It doesn’t even have to be some elaborate adventure. Just go out in your backyard. Sit in the sun. Read, journal, draw, jam to your favorite music and just chill! THIS is the right way to veg out. Without the TV, or mindless scrolling on your phone. We aren’t meant to be sitting in our house or work all day.

  9. Drink a lot of water!!!

Water is seriously the universes cure for everything. Your skin will be clearer you’ll feel better in general, just drink it!!

  10. Work out.

The first couple days/weeks might suck if you haven’t been in the groove for a while but it is sooo important. I honestly attribute about 40% of my happiness and energy lately to the endorphins you get from working out. Not only that but you just feel a lot more confident when you’re being healthy and seeing results in your body.

  11. Project nothing but positivity.

Smile at everyone you pass by. Don’t talk negatively about anyone (including yourself). Think of the happiest most positive person you know, and keep them in mind. Let that inspire you to be a light in other peoples lives. Look at the bright side of everything. All of the cliche sayings about happiness and positivity, yeah, those are true. and they should be your mottos. It’s better to be the one who smiled than the one who didn’t smile back!!

  12. Compliment others.

There is no greater gift or feeling in this life than knowing that you made someone else feel good. Just genuinely compliment someone. “Wow, you have such a beautiful smile!” “You are such a great friend!” Leave a note for someone telling them something you appreciate about them. Radiate love in your life. It will radiate love right back at you.

My last and final tip is to surround yourself with people who inspire you, love you, people who have a positive impact on your life. I think we don’t realize how important it is to do this. We have to be careful who we surround ourselves with because their/our energy is a magnet. There are so many happy, nice, genuine people in this world. If you can’t find one, BE ONE.

Build a life you don’t need to take a vacation from.
