San Francisco is Always a Good Idea

This past Sunday one of my best friends and I decided to wake up at 5, and take a spontaneous day trip to San Francisco!

One of the perks of living in Western Nevada is that California is so close! It only took us a short 3 and a half hours to get to San Fran! And since we drove a Prius, it was sooo cheap to drive. Only $30 in gas roundtrip! This was my second time to the bay area, and I just love it so much. San Francisco is rated one of the top environmentally friendly and vegan/vegetarian friendly cities in the country! My kind of place 🙂

On that note, I honestly had the best vegan food I’ve ever had. Possibly the best Mexican food I’ve ever had.

Next time you’re in town, check out Gracias Madre. As with a lot of vegan places, it was a little bit more than a regular restaurant, but SO WORTH EVERY PENNY. Tasting vegan food that amazing just inspires me so much more to make more delicious plant based food for myself!

We ordered the special that day (which was similar to the totopos on the menu), a tamal a la carte (filled with sweet potatoes and other deliciousness), and a yummy spiced potato dish with vegan ‘cashew crema’. We drank fresh squeezed spicy carrot ginger lime juice and homemade raspberry pineapple soda. I can’t wait to go back to San Fran, just to eat at this place. It was that good.

After brunch we went to the farmers market! Now I’ve only been to one farmers market in San Fran so far (the Heart of the City Farmers Market) but I really love it! It’s right by this huge beautiful palace-looking building. The first time my dad and I went, we bought some of the cheapest and best tasting organic fruit ever.. the magic of California!! This time I only got a few things, and very little fruit since it’s still a little early in the season. For only twenty five dollars, I got a bunch of fresh veggies, some awesome citrus, divine strawberries, and infused local honey (lavender and orange blossom). The prices are crazy! Ex: $1 for 4 grapefruit, $4 for over 20 blood oranges, $1 for a GINORMOUS bundle of fresh cilantro.

After I got my farmers market fix, we headed to some place I’ve been dying to visit for a while: Baker Beach! Do you ever see those perfect pictures of the golden gate bridge with a beautiful beach in the background? Whenever I see the pictures,  Well, with some research, I found out where it was! We LOVED this beach and can’t wait to come back on a road trip soon (forewarning this is a clothing optional beach) It was a great day trip to San Fran, and there’s still so much for us to do and see here! We’ll be back soon, and off onto other spontaneous adventures. 🙂
