New year, new me. Ha ha, just kidding. Is there really a difference between 11:59 on December 31st and 12:01 on January 1st? I think not. There is no reset button on life; and I’m totally okay with that! I’m grateful to say that I’m no longer unhappy with myself or my life. There’s no need for a fresh start.
But, there’s always room for improvement. My project & promise to myself this year is pretty different from your average. It’s not to go to the gym everyday, or to quit smoking; it’s to be positive 365 days of the year. Even on the bad days, a positive approach makes all the difference. I’m also going to do something every week to contribute to my future. Whether it’s applying for a scholarship, studying for the SATS, adding to my travel fund, or taking time to learn a language. 52 weeks of happy productivity.
In a single word, this year I’ll be practicing Wabi-Sabi. It’s Japanese & untranslatable into a single English word. It describes a way of living that focuses on finding beauty within the imperfections of life and peacefully accepting the natural cycle of growth and decay. It’s the most beautiful word that I’ve heard all year and the most wonderful aspect of the year to come.

Happy 2014 everyone, & good luck in the next 365 days of your lovely lives ❤

  1. Dearest Ivy, I think it was meant for me to read this today. I have been struggling with some things and feeling a down. I love your message about doing something positive everyday. I have not heard the word Wabi-Sabi before, but I will also embrace it and treasure it. Thank you dear granddaughter for your wonderful wisdom. You are amazing. Much love, Grandma Judi
